Close Protection at Events in Belgium

A gala, a concert, a conference, an award ceremony: these are moments when a public figure is announced in advance, precisely located and physically approachable. The three conditions that make a person vulnerable come together on the same evening. Close protection at an event is therefore not about adding one more officer to a room — it is about controlling the few minutes that matter: the arrival, the movements inside the building, the contact with the public, the departure.

What we do, and what we do not do

Let us be precise, because the confusion is common. We protect a person, not an event.

Our assignment covers an individual or a small group: an executive, an artist, a diplomat, a public figure, a family. We do not take charge of securing a gathering as a whole — screening the public, managing crowd flow, controlling entrances. Those activities fall under a different authorisation, and we do not offer them.

In practice the two arrangements coexist without overlapping: the organiser has its own security service for the venue, and we accompany the protected person within that framework, in coordination with it.

Typical situations

An executive speaking at a conference or a shareholders’ meeting.
An artist or public figure awaited by a crowd, with a short but intense exposure window.
An official delegation or a foreign guest at a reception.
An award ceremony or a media event, where the presence of photographers changes how the person moves.
A private event — wedding, anniversary, reception — involving an exposed individual.
A trade fair, where the protected person is identifiable on a stand for several hours.

How an assignment is prepared

Prior risk analysis

It focuses on the person, not the venue: level of media exposure, background, any threats already reported, habits, and the degree of discretion required. This is what determines the format of the detail — not a package decided in advance.

Venue reconnaissance

Before the event we survey the site: main and secondary access points, parking areas, internal routes, exit points, emergency exits, and the places where the person will be stationary and surrounded. That last point is often the most sensitive.

Arrival and departure

These are the two most exposed moments of an evening, and the ones we prepare most carefully. Drop-off point, approach route, vehicle positioning, minimal waiting time outside, and an alternative in case of unexpected crowding at the exit. These sequences are worked out with the security driver, who is part of the detail.

Coordination

An event assignment is prepared with the organiser and the venue’s security manager: who grants access, through which entrance, with which credential, and who is alerted if an incident occurs. A detail that arrives unannounced loses half its effectiveness.

Discreet or visible

Both approaches are defensible, and the choice is made case by case.

A visible presence deters and reassures, but it also marks out the protected person — sometimes to people who had not noticed them. A discreet detail, in civilian dress matching the dress code of the evening, goes unnoticed and preserves the person’s image, but acts later in the chain of events.

Our recommendation depends on the profile, the type of audience and the actual threat level. We make it after the analysis, not before.

Legal framework

Protection of persons is a regulated activity in Belgium. It may only be carried out by an authorised company, with officers holding an identification card issued by the FPS Interior.

Regarding armed assignments: carrying a weapon depends on the legal conditions and authorisations applicable, assessed case by case according to the situation, the location and the risk profile. It is not decided at the client’s request, and a Belgian authorisation confers no automatic right to operate armed abroad.

We never claim absolute security. A protection detail reduces risk, organises the response and shortens reaction times — it does not remove uncertainty.

Confidentiality

Information shared during an assignment — identities, routes, timings, addresses, guest lists — remains confidential. Our officers are bound to discretion, and we never communicate about completed assignments or the identity of protected persons. That is also why you will find no client list on this website.

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should we contact you?

As early as possible: venue reconnaissance and coordination with the organiser take time. Urgent requests are considered case by case, based on what can still be prepared properly.

How many officers are needed?

It depends on exposure, venue layout and duration. Discreetly accompanying one person at a conference has nothing in common with a heavily covered public arrival. The number follows from the analysis.

Do you secure the event itself?

No. We protect the person. Screening the public and managing crowd flow fall under a different authorisation and a different provider.

Do you operate outside Belgium?

Yes, as part of international assignments, subject to the rules and authorisations of each country.

Are officers in business dress?

Dress is adapted to the setting. At a gala, an officer in a suit goes unnoticed; at an outdoor event, different clothing is more appropriate. We agree this point with you.
